Paging you from 2002
2026: A Radio Odyssey

Thank you immensely to Max and Jarret from WAYO-LP Rochester for driving out in a blizzard to deliver and hook up this massive broadcast console, which they also donated to our station! What a huge honor it is to be given this beautiful beast of a broadcast console.
This is a Harris Legacy console, manufactured in the early 2000s (roughly 2001–2003), right when Harris Corporation was transitioning from its classic analog roots into the digital era. Like many consoles from this era, it requires lots of very specific, finicky connectors to tie together every piece of equipment. It’s all worth it, though, for the hands-on, tactile experience you get from a console like this.
Over the course of one week, we got the grounding wire and ground bar connected (thank you, Steven and Skip, for tackling this!), got the coaxial cable ends put on, soldered most of the cables (thank you, Romeyn for helping!!), set the console in place, tested the EAS, and got microphone boom arms in position. Since then, we also got some really sweet chairs. (Thank you, Jess and Yuri!).

Thanks to T’Chaka for being the dedicated videographer.
Tomorrow! (or Today!), there is a democratic committee forum hosted at the Grange. Attend in person, or, if you can’t make it, wait for Wheat Paste Radio’s recording to drop!
